Independence Day in Colombia

Mark it down folks - July 20 is Independence Day in Colombia!

We've always known you have to be flexible when coming to Leticia, but even then, this week has been like nothing we would have expected. Lucy forgot in all the planning to mention that this week is a big holiday for them, which meant festivals and parades and more parades...which also meant every Colombian with any sense of country pride is out lining the streets. As a result all our flexible plans went marching down the street with the bands and baton twirlers.

It's likely we won't ever be back here on this calendar week due to all the celebrations, but I must say, it's been pretty awesome to be in Colombia this week.

Once the parade was finally over (we were told 2 hours but it was more like 4...you know Colombia time), we left for Aljaba to do VBS - Bible study, crafts, and games.

Franco and Lucy leading worship with the kids.

You want to really get in worship mode? Listen to Colombian kids sing 10,000 Reasons!

Debbie Mathis deserves an award. She was the perfect Bible teacher,
so organized and prepared, and so patient. What an asset to our team!
The kids started with an oreo on their foreheads, and without using
their hands they had to get it into their mouths!

Is she irresistible, or what?

Pizza night at Aljaba.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words...so, since we've included about 30,000 words in this post, we'll call it a night.

We'll try to play catch up on the blog to get the last couple of days out to you.

For the generations...
Sarah
