The Festivities Continue!

The first parade consisted of children from all the local schools in the Tres Fronteras Region (Colombia, Peru, and Brazil), including several of our La Aljaba kids, but day 2 was the military parade.

Again, streets were lined as the various military branches, police, and other community service workers from the three countries marched by. Just as you would expect in the US, everyone would clap to show their appreciation for the service and sacrifice. It was especially moving as the veterans marched by. These men and women with dark, wrinkled, leathery skin marched with their shoulders back and heads held high. They have seen and experienced more than we could imagine, and oh, the stories I’m sure they could tell! There are certainly things we could have been doing to help back at the Aljaba property, but our participation in the days’ events meant just as much to Lucy as anything. For these two days we were all Colombian.

Day 2 of VBS was all about how Jesus loves the little children. It was a sweet day of learning, playing, and loving one another. Debbie worked her magic in the teaching room, and Hope Daniel was in her element as she put her Bellevue TrailPraiser experience to use to teach the kids “Bubblin’ Up” from the Submerged VBS playlist.

Our week is going by so fast! We have one more day with the kids, and we'll also be doing some painting at Aljaba before it's time to pack up and head home. Home...that brings a roller coaster of emotions. I miss my own children terribly, but when part of your heart is in Colombia you are stuck between a rock and a hard place. No matter where you go someone is being left behind. Ugh.

Praying for the generations...
Sarah
